This review is for: Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook (Wi-Fi)
I just received my Acer Chromebook today and cannot put it down. Setup is a breeze, and it is very simple to use. My desktop recently died so I set up my laptop as a desktop with a keyboard and mouse. Just needed something to surf the web with, and this is great! Now, my laptop is solely dedicated to my work and I don't have to worry so much about getting a virus on it, as I will use my Chromebook for surfing the web, Facebook, etc. From what I understand, the Chromebook is virtually worry free as far as getting viruses. That is a major plus. I would recommend this for anyone who just needs something for accessing the Internet. I noticed that someone mentioned that it is small. I do agree, but the settings can be changed very easily for larger fonts. I am shocked that this is just as fast, if not faster, than my laptop. Couldn't be happier with my purchase!

This laptop provides by far the fastest internet I have experienced within my home wireless network. Although I have not measured how much faster websites load, this is the first time that the loading of websites is a total non-issue. Startup (with internet connection being fully established) is superfast, in my case with password entry less than 20 seconds.UPDATE 8/15/2011:Both Amazon and Netflix Video streaming are now supported and work great. Nice to be able to stream to my LCD-TV via HDMI.Although, I purchased the Chromebook for private purposes, it has meanwhile turned out to be great for connecting to my work computer through a remote desktop client that the IT department at my firm installed. It works fast and allows me to access all of the programs that I have at work including the usual Office products. There is also a CITRIX based remote desktop solution.UPDATE 3/5/2012I am revising my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars.Amazon instant streaming of purchased protected content does NOT work anymore! Their is apparently a mismatch between the latest version of Adobe Flash Player supported for Chrome and the one expected by Amazon:[...]This problem has been around for a few months and no solution or workaround yet to be found. If someone knows a solution, please let me know. Thanks.Printing has turned out to be unreliable.

I pre-ordered this back in June 2011 and have been anxiously awaiting its arrival since. It arrived today and, let me say, I am VERY happy with this purchase. During the time I have been waiting to receive this computer, I've read a lot of reviews by both end users and tech reviewers. And let me say, first, what this computer is NOT:1. This computer is not a Desktop replacement. Now, I'd like to detail what this computer is/could be:1. PERFECT for those (such as myself) who almost EXCLUSIVELY use the web. All my docs are done through Google Docs, all of my pictures are stored online. I even do my photo editing online through Piknik. I use Facebook, Google+, messengers, etc. But, 99.99999% of the time I use a computer it is through a browser. In fact, the only time I use a desktop is for Rosetta Stone. Since all of my computer time is spent in a browser, I am constantly annoyed by updating my antivirus, Operating System, Browser, etc. With the Chromebook, I never have to worry about any of this again. I turn on the computer and in under 10 seconds, I'm ready to go. One other nice feature is the login. My wife and I both use Gmail and other Google services...since we both have a separate login option, there is no more need to sign in/out when we access our email or use Facebook, etc.2. PERFECT for the older or less tech savvy people who just want a simple, low-maintenance way to get online, send email, view pics, listen to music, video chat, etc.3. PERFECT for commuters since it is so compact and lightweight, yet big enough to be more comfortable and easy to use than a Netbook...In fact, after using this today, my old HP Mini netbook is going on eBay tomorrow! Many of those who are talking poorly about the Chromebook are doing so because they are comparing it to a fully functional laptop or desktop with optical drives and a regular base OS. However, this is DESIGNED to be ONLY for web based users. So, if you find that all of your computing time is spent online, this IS DEFINITELY a purchase you want to make. I LOVE MINE!
