Customer Rating Not for those who want a lighter device that is ultra portable, 2011-07-14
This review is for: Toshiba Thrive Portfolio Case for 10.1-Inch Tablet (PA3945U-1EAB)
I am not disagreeing with the other reviewers. I test devices and cases as a side hobby, then write published reviews. My main criteria for any case, be it Thrive,Ipad 2, Galaxy 10.1, Iconia, Touchpad etc, is portability. I do NOT want a case that will protect the device if I drop it on the ground. I want a case that hardly adds any bulk, makes it easy to grip and protects the screen from knocks. All of the devices I just mentioned, have pretty scratch resistant screens. They may smudge easily in some cases, but the screens are pretty solid. So if I want to slip a device into my bag or case, I only need it to to stop dust and dirt getting onto the screen. I also want to stop any really hard objects from creating concentrated pressure. If you have a $500-700 device, then you should make sure you do not drop it: having a device that is non slip and not bulky to carry, achieves that. Having a case that is huge, does not let you hold it comfortably in your hands and has to be removed to use in a dock...well that is too much hassle to even want to make me use the tablet! This case, in my opinion, does not do the Thrive any justice. It adds a POUND in weight! It almost doubles the bulk of the device. It makes it a lot more difficult to hold. But most of all it hides the beautiful form of the thrive completely. I think it is a really ugly cover too, since it is bigger, depth-wise, than it needs to be. It's like putting Cinderalla's foot in a size 15 wader! The whole point of a tablet is portability, and while the Thrive is a little heavier than most, it is well balanced and ideal for a lot of needs. It is however not a laptop substitute-none of these devices are. So why try and create a case that almost increases the weight to 2.8 pounds! There are some laptops that are just 3.5 lbs!For my money, get the Roo slimline case or ....no case! The back of the Thrive is rubberized for a reason-so it is easy to grip and hold for extended periods. The screen is scratch resistant: you cannot scratch it easily and certainly not simply by putting it on your briefcase, bag or handbag. It will get some dust and dirt on it, but that will not scratch the screen. For the most part a cover is not really necessary, but sometimes, due to weather or lugging the case for longer periods when traveling, a case is useful.I hope this review helps!!

Customer Rating well built and good price, 2011-08-07
This review is for: Toshiba Thrive Portfolio Case for 10.1-Inch Tablet (PA3945U-1EAB)
This is a fairly priced case: for less than $30, you get a sturdy case with a very snug fit and a lot of protection.I agree that this case does add some weight and width, but I can live with that.I guess I would not get a thrive in the first place if I cared so much about the weight. The multi-angle stand is also nice. Overall, it is a good buy.

This Portfolio though not real leather but looks heavy duty and very much like the real thing! It is heavy duty with tight stitching everywhere that adds to the durability and longevity of the case with a soft lining to prevent scratching and abrasion to your treasured Toshiba Thrive. The only con I have is that there is no strap to secure the case closed when not in use and to set the desired operating angle, velcro is used. However that does allow you to set the viewing in minute increments throughout the usable range. The real success story is Nu Image who sells the portfolio at very competitive pricing and have and awesome and responsive support staff.I was amazed at how fast my order arrived!Don't forget the screen protector!
